During your holiday in Lombardy, you have to visit one of the most beautiful cities of the region, Begamo. Leave the hotel and drive for about 40 kilometres to Bergamo.
The city is divided into two areas: “Città Bassa” is the modern part while “Città Alta” is the old city surrounded by ancient walls. We definitely suggest visiting “Città Alta”, located on the top of the hill and easily reachable by cable car. You can park the car in Via Zelasco 15, near the cable car station.
There are several unmissable attractions: Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Cappella Colleoni, Torre Civica and Piazza Vecchia. You can continue your visit by reaching San Vigilio, the highest part, with another funicular. You will find the ruins of majestic castles with defensive towers, casemates and embrasures, built over a tangled underground network of galleries and secret passages.
